Federal Jury

I just got a letter today informing me that I’ve been summoned for jury duty in federal court. Just what I needed . . .

Modesty in Dress

  /   Tuesday, October 14, 2003   /   Comments(0)

Here is a Dear Grace column on modesty in dress. I remember hearing a recording of a priest that said that anyone who causes a sin of lust by immodest dress is responsible for that sin. Of course, the sinner is responsible as well, I’m sure.

Besides, I find that women who dress modestly are much better looking than those who don’t. Immodest dress looks trashy to me. Truly modest dress is sharp-looking and gets attention from people whose attention is desirable.

I Hate Spam

  /   Tuesday, October 14, 2003   /   Comments(0)

Some of you may have noticed that my e-mail address is totally unpublished on the site. You have to use my web form to e-mail me, and the e-mail address isn’t even embeded in the form. I do this because my last e-mail address got so much spam that I had to shut it down.

Now, I have people spamming the comments on my blog. Not only that, it’s filthy stuff that I don’t even want to mention. I have tried to delete all the comments and ban the IP addresses, but if you find another one, please let me know. I don’t want to have to shut down the comments section.

Tongue Piercing and Tatoos

Someone asked Catholic Exchange about tatoos and tongue piercing. I don’t know about the morality of such. However, both rank high on my ugly list.

Home Sick

  /   Thursday, October 09, 2003   /   Comments(0)

I stayed home from work today. I’ve apparently had quite a sinus infection for a few days, and I was wondering why my mind was apparently non-functional. I guess I need to rest because I hadn’t really been doing much good lately anyway. I rarely call in sick, so I probably won’t get in trouble, and I have a doctor’s note anyway. The nurse practitioner told me to stay home. I just slept for about 4 hours, and I’m starting to feel better.

Respect Life Month

  /   Thursday, October 09, 2003   /   Comments(0)

As many readers may know, October is Respect Life Month. We participate in Life Chain in Memphis down one of our busiest streets. I was there right down the street from my church holding a sign. In our area, we were supported by a number of the motorists. There was one who yelled “PRO-CHOICE!!” at us and another who gave us all the finger, but most of the people were well-behaved when they saw us.

On Monday night, several people from the Frassati Society, including myself, participated in the Phone-A-Thon for Birthright. We raised quite a bit of money. I called one guy whose answering machine said “I hate answering machines, and I held out as long as I could before I gave into the pressure and bought one. Anyway, that’s what you’re talking to.”

In Our Minds?

  /   Wednesday, October 08, 2003   /   Comments(0)

I really like this reprint from the Wanderer. It reminds me of the Busted Halo crowd. Many get the idea that the teaching of the Church is nothing more than the thoughts of people in the Church rather than divine revelation. Needless to say, that just isn’t right.

On Call

  /   Sunday, October 05, 2003   /   Comments(0)

I have been very busy lately. I am the on call pharmacist for my company. It seems that the number of calls has declined dramatically, but I still get the frivolous stuff. I guess some people don’t have enough to do.
