The Next Act of Judicial Legislation

  /   Wednesday, July 31, 2002   /   Comments(0)

Knowing how our judicial system can be, I’m not so sure that this satire won’t become reality. I hope no one at our favorite corporations is reading this. They just might be able to find a lawyer to do it.

The Sequel to the Tobacco Company Suits

  /   Wednesday, July 31, 2002   /   Comments(0)

Probably most people reading this have heard about the lawsuits filed against tobacco companies because of the health problems associated with their products. Now, we have some guy suing fast food chains because of his obesity!! Shame on the citizens of Lawyerville who would take on a case like this!!

Sins of the Flesh Really Do Catch Up to You

Sins of the Flesh Really Do Catch Up to You
Check out this new CDC report that says that couples who cohabitate are more likely to break up than married couples. Well . . . . someone did try to tell me once that marriage doesn’t make a difference. So much for that. If the CDC were really bold, maybe they’ll take on the effects of contraception on a marriage.

If You Can’t Beat ‘Em, Join ‘Em, but I’d Rather Not in this Case

  /   Tuesday, July 30, 2002   /   Comments(0)

I can’t get over what an abominition, this game is. Whatever happened to the quest to give the bad guys a swift kick in the derriere? It seems that the only purpose in this kind of game is to engage yourself in blantant immorality. I won’t be playing this on my Playstation 2.

The sad part about this kind of entertainment is that there is often no shortage of Christians who buy it. Few of us would tolerate people standing and making statements that were offensive to our friends and family members, but for some reason we have no problem entertaining ourselves with things that offend our God whom we should love more. Heck, we pay people to offend God.

Renewing the Church

Check out this blog from Emily Stimpson on renewing the Church. It’s a great alternative to the counterfeit Catholicism that’s being pushed by other groups these days.

Vatican Warning Concerning Sacrament Simulation

  /   Tuesday, July 30, 2002   /   Comments(0)

I’ve mentioned the story about these women who essentially received a simulation of the sacrament of Holy Orders. I call it a simulation because it is impossible that a woman can be ordained. Here is the warning given to the women published on Peter’s Net. Has anyone heard any indication that these women have repented? I haven’t. If they are indeed excommunicated, we might be tempted to say something along the lines of “Score one for Ratzinger!!” I beg of you not to do this. We must pray for these women’s conversion back to the true faith. Really, we need to pray that all people everywhere will have the grace to accept God as he is, not as we wish him to be.

I’m baaaack

  /   Monday, July 29, 2002   /   Comments(0)

Good evening, I’ve made it back in one piece. Where was I? No . . . not at World Youth Day, but I was at a close second . . . Franciscan University of Steubenville. I went to a Defending the Faith Conference. There were great speakers, but man, was it intense. It did make me eager to go out and preach the Gospel.

Anyway, check out this great article on the Holy Father.

Reform the Church

  /   Tuesday, July 23, 2002   /   Comments(0)

It seems to be a slow news day . . . . at least I can’t find much that perks my interest.

Therefore, I’m going to rant once more about the extreme illogic used by some who insist on changing the Church’s teachings. It works on two of their propositions. One is that we are all the Church. The second is the idea that the Church needs reform. Therefore, the completed statement is:

We are the Church.
The Church needs reform.
Therefore, we (personally) need to reform.

I only wish those “progressives” would realize that it is they, not the Magisterial teachings, who need reform.

Sin and Repentance

  /   Monday, July 22, 2002   /   Comments(0)

No matter what the sin, let us remember that there is more joy in Heaven over a repentance sinner than over thousands who have no need of repentance. I came across this story of repentance just a little while ago. This priest has sought early retirement and now leads a life of prayer and penance. Let us hope that more priests who have done these things will follow suit.

I’m aware that some people may react with statements such as “Don’t you know what he did?” or “How can you talk about God forgiving him?” The problem is that we minimize the horrible nature of sin because we know that God forgives sin. It’s as though God just shrugs his shoulders and says “Well, that’s okay.” every time we sin. Well, it’s not okay!! Jesus died on the cross because of sin. This type of thinking can cause real problems when we or someone else does something that we cannot deny the sinfulness of. At this point, we may also deny God’s forgiveness because of how bad we messed up. God’s forgiveness is not given to us because our sin is no big deal but because of the greatness of his love for us. Even child abusers can be forgiven by God. This doesn’t mean that they are suited to return to ministry, but it does mean that they can still reach Heaven.
