I’ve been wanting to blog about the Holy Father’s ability to keep going no matter what people seem to think of his health. It amazes those of us who understand what he is trying to accomplish (Christ didn’t get off the cross.) and really upsets his detractors. In fact, one editorial complained that he kept on living to “impose his will” on the people. It was as though the Pope had been sending the Swiss guard to search people’s houses for packs of Ortho Tri-Cyclen.
No matter what I may think of the decisions he has made, I can’t help but think of the stories of a saint when I read this. Has anyone read about Mother Cabrini? She survived a number of illnesses that could have killed her. The Holy Father is now doing the same. Even though I question why he hasn’t been a stricter disciplinarian, I can’t help but think that God is already making preparation for his canonization by these somewhat miraculous recoveries that he heeps making. Maybe this is a way of showing us how God’s ways are far above his ways. It’s hard to deny that the Holy Father has been attentive to the Holy Spirit.
